Our Program
The environment in which businesses today compete is rapidly changing and the rate of change is increasing. They are locked in a battle to meet demanding customer expectations while competing successfully to gain market share and to grow revenues and profit.Individuals who know and work to master the concepts, techniques, and tools of quality know that higher quality can and always does, make a difference.
This program is designed to provide graduates with practical knowledge to be a significant contributor in many areas of quality management. They learn how to integrate quality initiatives in the existing business framework by assessing business processes from a quality perspective and developing quality processes that support day-to-day and strategic business plans.
The program offers a two-part approach to organizational quality management. The first focuses on technical aspects that enable students to use appropriate tools for identifying, analyzing and recommending quality improvement initiatives. The second part teaches how to address quality issues from a business perspective including the business strategy, return on investment and overall cost of quality.
Graduates of this program gain the educational component needed to write the certification exams for a number of professional designations sponsored by the American Society for Quality (ASQ).

Programs at Algonquin College are delivered using a variety of instruction modes. | MGT1030 | Quality Basics This course introduces participants to the terms, concepts and principles of Quality. It also introduces the tools and methodologies involved in improving the quality of products, services and processes within an organization. The course touches on the Quality Improvement Associate designation by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Quality standards within Services, Manufacturing, Government and Not-for-Profit organizations are discussed with concentration on simple but effective tools that are readily applied in the workplace. | 45.0 |
| MGT1031 | Customer/Supplier Management This is an overview of Quality Management as it applies to customer-supplier relationship. Representative business and process flows are used to identify both internal and external customers and suppliers. The need for established deliverables and acceptance criteria are developed from the process flows. Finally, the need for preventive and corrective actions, system audits, and continual improvement are investigated as they apply to managing effective relationships. | MGT1032 | Team Dynamics In this interactive course, students work within a variety of simulated team environments to augment their first-hand experience with the benefits and drawbacks of collaborative work. Students learn the requirements and responsibilities of effective leadership in various types of teams in order to translate the vision and mission of a business into day-to-day activities focused on improving process quality and to create a customer-focused organization. It demonstrates the relevance of quality in achieiving competititive advantage and defines the role of quality in business strategy. | MGT1035 | Process Mapping In this course, students create Process Maps and Value Stream Maps. Students learn to visualize and understand the sequence and nature of events in a process at macro and micro levels. Students are also able to identify areas for streamlining the work, reducing defects and improving overall operations. Process maps allow everyone i.e. management, suppliers, and customers to see value, to differentiate value from waste and to create the plan of action for waste elimination. | MGT1036 | Quality Audit The "Audits" course prepares students for taking a lead role in the execution of internal and external audits as part of the everyday responsibilities of a person employed in the field of Quality Management. | MGT1037 | Cost of Quality This course is designed to provide the student with the understanding of "Cost of Quality" (COQ) principles as they relate to quality management and various business applications. Student Activity/Sports Fee: $190.50 per term in Levels 01 and 02 and $20.80 in Level 03.
Student Centre Building Fee: $17.50 per term in Levels 01 and 02.
Health Service Fee: $10 per term.
Health Plan Fee: $114.50 paid once annually. **
A $35 graduation fee is payable in the final term.
A $25 transcript fee is payable in the first term a student attends Algonquin College.
International Students pay all relevant Canadian fees plus an International Premium of $3,600 per term.
