PURPOSE

To establish and maintain a Corporate Identity Program to project and promote a positive, unified and immediately identifiable professional image of the College.

Definition

Corporate Image:The manner in which the College is perceived by its stakeholders and the general public through traditional and new media (including the Web). 
Corporate Identity Program:A set of visual elements and guidelines developed to ensure consistency and quality in the manner in which the College presents itself to its internal and external audiences.
Graphic Standards:A set of guidelines that detail the appropriate use of the College identity.
Marketing:Activities that promote the image of the College through various communication vehicles, including as print publications, Web, radio, TV and transit ads.
Advertising:Messages that are created and displayed to promote the College.
College badge:A graphic element or icon that may be used in place of the College logo, especially in applications where size restricts legibility of the full logo (ie social media interfaces such as Flickr and Twitter). 

POLICY

  1. The perception of Algonquin College by its various stakeholder groups, as well as the general public, is influenced by the manner in which the College presents itself. A Corporate Identity Program will define a set of visual elements and guidelines to ensure consistency and quality in the manner in which the College presents itself to its internal and external audiences.
  2. All applications of the College corporate image will adhere to the guidelines presented in the College’s Graphic Standards Manual. This Manual defines the use of the College name, logo, wordmarks, colour pallets, typography and other elements of its corporate identity such as the College badge.  It also outlines the acceptable use of the elements of the College’s corporate identity in letterhead, business cards, advertising, primary publications, web sites and other electronic communications, signage (both facility identification and directional), certificates, degrees and other corporate uses.
  3. The College name and logo will appear on all printed promotional material such as the career guide, student handbook, newspaper advertisements, brochures, flyers, banners, maps, stationery (letterhead,  and memorandum), facsimile transmissions, name tags, and plaques.
  4. All Algonquin College units and departments will maintain a positive and consistent corporate image that promotes Algonquin College and reflects its high professional standards.
  5. The Director, Marketing Services has delegated authority to oversee the College Corporate Identity program, including review, update and management the Graphic Standards manual. Marketing Services is available for consultation and guidance in all matters concerning the College’s corporate image.
  6. Units or departments that use the College identity in ways that are deemed unacceptable or that could lead to unfavourable perceptions of the College may be required to assume the costs of reproducing the product in question.

Action

 1.

Submit to the President’s Executive Committee for approval the Graphic Standards Manual  which defines the corporate identity to be applied to letterhead, web sites, primary publications, advertising, signage, certificates, degrees and other corporate uses.

Follow  the corporate identity guidelines outlined in the College’s Graphic Standards Manual when preparing corporate, advertising or marketing materials.
