PURPOSE

To set guidelines for the use of in-line skates, skateboards, bicycles and other similar means of transportation on campus

POLICY

  1. The College, concerned for the health and safety of the College community, prohibits in-line skating, skateboarding and bicycling inside College buildings, and restricts their use outside  College buildings.
  2. Students, employees and visitors may use their in-line skates, skateboards, and bicycles on the College roads and pathways, provided the activity conforms to generally accepted safety practices.
  3. Guidelines for the storage of in-line skates, skateboards, and bicycles on campus are as follows:
    3.1  Skateboards and in-line skates may be stored in lockers, cubicles, or offices provided the storage does not create an obstruction or present a hazard such as tripping or slipping.
    3.2 Bicycles must be locked in the bike racks when not in use.
  4. The College prohibits the use of  in-line skates, skateboards, or bicycles for trick or extreme riding techniques, using the College physical attributes such as stairs, railings, retaining walls, curbs.
  5. Members of the College community who do not comply with this policy may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the applicable College disciplinary process (Employee disciplinary processes or Student Conduct Policy).
  6. Members of the general public who refuse to comply with this policy  will be removed from the College premises.                  

PROCEDURE


ACTION


RESPONSIBILITY                          

1.

Request the person to store equipment properly if presenting a safety hazard. 


Any Employee

2.

Ask person using in-line skates, skateboards, or bicycles for trick or extreme riding techniques to stop immediately and explain the danger they create for themselves and others.

3.

Report the person who refuses to comply with the policy to Safety & Security Services.

4.

Initiate disciplinary actions if person refuses to stop continues to disregard   policy.

Ask members of the general public who refuse to comply with this policy  to leave College property.
