PURPOSE

To provide new full-time and part-time employees an orientation session to acquaint them with the College, its vision, mission, values, strategic plan and organizational structure.   

SCOPE

This policy applies to all new employees of the College.

POLICY

  1. The New Employee Orientation Session provides an overview of the College vision, mission and values; strategic plan and organizational structure.  The session also reviews key policies and employee benefits; presents legislated and mandatory training guidelines including Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.  The New Employee Orientation Session introduces services and departments which can assist new employees with support, information and tools they will need.
  2. As a condition of employment, all newly hired employees are required to attend the College’s New Employee Orientation Session.  Administrative and Support staff attend the Orientation Session on their first day of employment.  Full-time Faculty attend the New Employee Orientation Session at least one month before their first day of teaching.  Part-time and temporary Administrative and Support staff will attend the first available regularly scheduled Orientation Session.
  3. Employees will be compensated for time spent at the New Employee Orientation Session at their regular rate of pay and in accordance with any applicable provisions of collective agreements.
  4. Departmental orientation will be provided to all newly hired employees following their attendance at the College’s New Employee Orientation Session.

Develop, coordinate and maintain the delivery of a new employee orientation program;

Schedule the New Employee Orientation Session on the first work day following the pay period for full-time Administrative and Support staff;

Schedule new full-time Faculty Orientation Sessions three times a year (August, December and April) as required.

2.1

Hire new full-time employees in accordance with the new hire schedule to allow new employees to attend the scheduled New Employee Orientation Session;

Ensure that newly hired part-time employees attend the first available New Employee Orientation Session by notifying Human Resources of the hire;

Invite all new employees to a New Employee Orientation Session;

Invite new full-time Faculty to attend the New Employee Orientation Session at least one month before their first day of teaching;

Department Orientation



3.1

Plan the delivery of a department / school-specific orientation, to correspond with the duties and responsibilities of new employees and include all relevant mandatory/legislated training;

Deliver the department-specific orientation to Administrative and Support staff on their first day of employment and to full-time Faculty at least one month before their first day of teaching;
