POLICY

  1. Students will not be registered until fees have been paid in full or a fee deferral has been arranged. Students can request a fee deferral through the Registrar’s Office.
  2. A fee deferral is an arrangement between a student and the College that allows a student to defer full payment of tuition fees until the end of the fourth week of term.  Fee deferrals must be obtained for each term. Arrangements for fee deferral are to be made in-person in the Registrar’s Office. Students receiving Financial Aid (OSAP) can apply online through the Algonquin College Student Information System (ACSIS).
  3. An administrative fee is charged for processing a fee deferral and is payable at the time of deferral.
  4. An application for a fee deferral, either online or in hardcopy, must be submitted on or before the Fees Due Date. Returning students must defer their fees before the due date or they will be  subject to a late penalty. New students who do not defer fees by the Fees Due Date risk having acceptance to their program cancelled.
  5. Students, who defer their fees for one program, and subsequently change programs, are required to complete a new deferral.
  6. Fee deferral is a privilege, not a right. Students must demonstrate the ability to pay the outstanding balance, prior to being granted a fee deferral. If the student has been granted a deferral in past, and has not adhered to the agreed upon payment terms, a subsequent deferral may not be granted.

Students NOT In Receipt of Financial Aid

  7. Level 01 students must pay a minimum $480.00 deposit towards their tuition fees, plus an administrative charge of $20.00 for a program fee deferral.
  8. Returning students must pay a minimum $100 deposit towards their tuition fees plus an administrative charge of $20.00 for a program fee deferral.
  9. The balance of the outstanding tuition fees must be paid as soon as possible, preferably by the start date of the program, but no later than the end of the fourth week of term. A fee payment plan is to be included on the Fee Deferral form.

Students in Receipt of Financial Aid

  10. Students who have applied for financial aid under OSAP are eligible for a fee deferral and can apply online through ACSIS. The amount of confirmed OSAP funding each term must be sufficient to cover the amount of the fee deferral.  When applying for a fee deferral, Ontario students are to ensure :
    a.   they have received an acceptance to a program at the College;
    b.   they have signed the official OSAP declaration; and,
    c.   they have submitted the signature pages which may require the spouse or parents’ signature.
  11. Students from Canadian provinces outside of Ontario or territories who have received official confirmation of being eligible for financial support from their provincial government or territory can request a fee deferral. The amount of confirmed government funding each term must be sufficient to cover the amount of the fee deferral. When applying for a fee deferral, these students are to ensure:
    a.   they have received an acceptance to a program at the College; and,
    b.   they have a signed official declaration for financial support from their provincial government or territory.
  12. Students entering the third term of a non-semestered (45-50 weeks) program who have received all their financial funding in the first and second term are not eligible for a fee deferral.

    Part-time students in Full-time Programs

  13. A fee deferral may be extended to part-time students in full-time programs who are taking two or more courses. Fee deferrals for part-time students are completed at the time of registration.
  14. Part-time Level 01 students must pay a minimum $480.00 deposit towards their tuition fees, plus an administrative charge of $20.00 for a program fee deferral.
  15. Returning part-time students must pay a minimum $100 deposit towards their tuition fees, plus an administrative charge of $20.00 for a program fee deferral.

    International Students

  16. Level 01 international students are to have the deferral approved by the International Education Centre (IEC). Once approved, a $1000 deposit towards tuition fees must be paid.
  17. Returning international students do not require approval from the IEC. A $1000 deposit towards tuition fees must be paid.

    Students in Full-time College-approved Programs

  18. Typically, students in full-time College-approved programs are required to pay a minimum of 50% of the tuition fee at the time of registration. The balance of the tuition fee must be paid prior to the academic withdrawal date.
  19. The Dean may authorize exceptions to the typical process of fee deferrals for full-time College-approved programs, the percentage being set at his/her discretion.
  20. The student will be required to sign a Fee Deferral form acknowledging the terms of the deferral.  A copy will be kept on file in the Registrar’s Office.
