Welcome to the Early Learning Centre

The Algonquin College Early Learning Centre Lab School provides high quality, culturally-diverse and inclusive programs licensed under the Ontario Ministry of Education. The ELC provides early learning care for: Infants (6 weeks – 18 months), Toddlers (18-30 months), Preschool (2.5 – 4 years old age) children. Educators, families and children work positively together as co-learners, constructing knowledge together. This partnership is essential in creating a sense of community and belonging where learning is supported through responsive and caring attention to individual stages of development and interests. Play-based learning is central to our philosophy by offering a program which promotes inquiry and exploration. The ELC strives to demonstrate best practice in the field of Early Learning for Early Childhood Education students.

Preschool Room

The preschool program promotes and maintains a safe, respectful and positive learning environment that creates an opportunity for children to develop to their fullest potential.

The Toddler program engages children in active, creative and meaningful explorative play and inquiry that nurtures and enhances healthy development and supports their growing sense of self.

Toddler Dining & Play Room

The Toddler dining space promotes healthy eating at mealtimes and supports the children’s social development. In addition to the main toddler room, there is an open space to encourage gross motor exploration.

The infant program is a nurturing, inclusive environment providing individualized care. The educators provide a variety of activities that promote early brain development, interactive learning, literacy and social skills through indoor and outdoor play.

Audio equipped room with 1-way mirror to observe & document best practice in early learning environment. Designed for student learning but also be used for families to observe their child.
