What is the Cost?
Students in Mobile Learning programs are charged a fee of $150.00 per semester. This fee provides all MLP students with access to support for setting up network access and troubleshooting of mobile devices and to the loaner pool of mobile devices in case your device is in for repairs. Students in MLP programs will take the majority of their courses in the Colleges newly renovated mobile learning classrooms which provide electrical outlets to the desk and access to the Colleges network and internet via both wireless and hardwired technologies. Your mobile fee also provides you access to Microsoft Office Pro, the Windows operating system (both new and upgrades), the Adobe Master Collection software package, and a full subscription to Lynda.com, as well as many other online resources. Please pay close attention to the Level and Year of the mobile learning program.
This program is part of Algonquin’s Mobile Learning Initiative. All students entering into the program are expected to have and use a mobile computing device that meets or exceeds the recommended hardware requirements as designated by the program. Student are responsible for the cost of their mobile computing device.
Students in mobile learning programs will be provided access to a suite of industry leading software and online resources. MLP students will use their devices to enhance their learning experience in and out of the classroom, obtain and work with course materials, participate in collaborative and mlearning environments and become skilled, confident users of the technologies used within an educational environment and workplace.
What Mobile Device is needed for my program?
The hardware requirements for 2013/2014 programs have been determined. Please refer to the 2013-2014 Mobile Learning Programs list page to see which mobile device is required for your program.
Will I have to upgrade my laptop if I started last year?
If you started your program in Fall 2012, you will not have to upgrade your mobile device as you enter into your next year. You are however, eligible for the software upgrades as they become available.
My Parents want to buy me a laptop for high school graduation… what should they get?
Hardware specifications change quickly and constantly. Algonquin College will determine by May/June which device is recommended for your program. Please refer back to this website at that time.
Where should I buy my mobile device?
You can buy your recommended device anywhere, however Algonquin’s New Technology Store has computers , laptops (Mac and PC), tablets, supplies and much more at educational rates. The New Technology Store is located in the Robert C. Gillett Student Commons building at the Woodroffe Campus. For all Apple products go to Algonquin College at the Apple Store.
What if my laptop breaks?
Students in Mobile Learning programs have access to loaner laptops. Loaner laptops can be borrowed from your campus Learning Resource Centre (Library) for up to 30 days. You will need to provide your student ID and documentation indicating that your laptop is being repaired.
How are the Hardware Requirements determined?
The hardware requirements for each program are based on the software used and the learning outcomes of your field of study.
What software is provided for my program?
All students enrolled in a Mobile Learning program are provided access to copies of various software titles prior to beginning their first class.

- Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft Office 2011 (Mac)
- Microsoft Windows 7 upgrade

I am a current MLP student. How do I get the software?
Adobe Software
All Mobile Learning Program students are eligible for the Adobe Master Collection CS6.0.
Woodroffe Campus: Pick up your software at ITS Client Care Group in room C102
Perth Campus: Pick up your software at Learning Resource Center
Pembroke Campus: Pick up your software at Learning Resource Center
Please bring your student identification card and your timetable.
Prior to installation you must login to http://lyceum.algonquincollege.com/downloads to obtain your license key – instructions will be on the packaging.
Your Adobe software comes with 2 installs, which means you can install it on 2 computers – your laptop and home computer.
NOTE: If you are unable to login, please check to make sure the Level/Year you are currently registered in is part of the Mobile Learning List of Programs.
Microsoft Software
- Go to: http://algonquincollege.onthehub.com
- Click on “Register” button
- Select “An account has been created for me, I need to register”
- Enter your algonquinlive email address and continue (username@algonquinlive.com)
- Fill in the required details – Name, email address, create password etc.
- Click on the software of choice – Microsoft Office (2010 for Windows or 2011 for Mac), Microsoft Windows 7
- Click on the software download option and choose “add to cart” – make sure the subtotal = $0.00
- Click the check out button
- Click Continue on the next page
- Read and sign the license agreement
- Answer the three questions
- Order Page – Click Proceed with Order
- On the Receipt Page: Record the license key that displays in red at the bottom of the page, click on the Download button to begin your software install and follow the prompts.
How do I get software training?
Students also have access to online learning materials including online technology training from Lynda.com. Login to www.algonquincollege.com/onlineresources/mobileStudent/lynda.htm to get started.
